Past few days

Sunday morning saw Molly set sail and parasailed. She had a blast.

In the afternoon we caught the 2 individual bronze metal matches the Canadians were in. They won both of them. So, out of the 4 bronze medal opportunities we had Canada won 3 of them. Not to shabby.

We had a chance to sit in on a tour of the area on Monday, but the kids (Molz and B-cup) didn't really care and wanted to spend their last full day at the resort...so we did. Swam in the Sea, used the waterpark, played some pool, bowled and ate, were the highlights of the day. Time actually went quite fast.

Neither Spence or I could get a late check-out for our rooms so we were destined for the lobby for the afternoon on Tuesday before we were picked up for the airport. That was pretty boring. Molz says she can tell Spence is ready to get home....he's getting antzy.

Just sitting in Gatwick waiting another 9hrs for my next flight.

Updates

Going back to last night we had an A.P.B.(all points bulletin) out for Spence. I guess B-cup and him went bowling together and B-cup left him about 4:00pm in the lobby/bar. It was about 7hrs later and he was still there chatin' it up with an Aussie(and maybe downing an ale or two). Today he was the talk of the team...word seem to spread quickly.

This a.m. the Cadet male compound team shot for a bronze medal. They gave it a good try but lost to GBR 226-221. The Junior female compound team won bronze over Italy 221-218.

This afternoon we all decided to take a trip to town via public transit. It became very crowded on the bus and hot. Saw more of the town than we bargained for as the driver forgot to tell us when we should get off as we told him the approximate area we wanted to go to. When he stopped the bus and left, so did we, to a taxi. He took us to the old part of town along the shoreline of the Med.
Got lots of nice pics. of the area. The cab ride back to the hotel in a cab for 4 with 5 of us was quite a show. Spence needed a crowbar to pry himself out of the back seat and Kathy was numb from the hip down.

We think there is an organized tour nfor all of us to go on, on the 13th.

Mol and I still want to try a tandem parasailing ride down at the beach before we leave.

Pics have also been updated today.

Match Play

Today Mol had a bye in the first round. Her first match was in the second round called the 1/32 round. She had to face the 25th ranked gal from Mexico. Molz lost 96-106. Kathy was very proud of her and the way she shot and handled herself. Mol was glad it was over...I think she was stressed....just relieved it's over, but she still enjoyed herself. Sooooooo proud of her!!!!!!!!!!!

As for B-cup he had a bye in the first two rounds. He shot in the 1/16 round against a lad from Denmark. Chris was down 1 after the first six arrows. We were sure from our vantage point that he also lost on the second six when they flipped their signs and they were tied. So it went to a single arrow shootoff. Again tied. Onto shootoff #2, again tied. Round three is closest one to the centre wins...B-cup shoots a 9 and eveyone figures it's over. The Dane shoots a nine further away from the centre and B-cup wins. In the 1/8 round he faced an Italian and again is down 1 point after the first six arrows. This time though he can't over come the deficit and losses 116-119.

Tomorrow we will head over to support the 3 remaining Canadians and watch the team rounds.

That's all for now

A Good day

Molz shot pretty darn good today. She still dropped to 41st overall BUT her overall score of 1248 is a Personal Best. Shooting 3 PB's in one tournament is amazing.....but to do it in a world championships is incredible. One simply cannot describe the pride as a parent.

Tomorrow at 15:30 or 16:30(we're not sure which), local time, will be her first match. She is up against an Italian who ranked 39th. Should be fun. Molz likes the 60M distance.

I'm going to upload some pics of her to this site...check them out.

Buttercup is chugging right along. He had a slight hiccup at the start of 30M but it turned out it didn't cost him much at all and he placed 7th overall. His first match is at 17:45 Thurs.

That's all for now

"Can't think of a title"

Today went ok, 40m wasn't thee greatest compared to the other girls but i did do my average. Then 30 went good because i got my form back on track! Woot!
Hopefully tomorrow for eliminations my form will turn out to be the way it was 2 days ago.

B-cup is doing great!!!!!!!

2nd Scoring Day

So lots has happened!!!!!!!
As the other posts have said, i shot pretty well yesterday. I was extremely happy with my score at 60m.
There was alittle bit of tension at the beginning because a bitch from Russia was causing some trouble on my target. For the people who don't know a lot about archery, each person has their own space (box you could say) while they are standing on the line. So this Russian girl kept shooooooing me away making me completely out of line with the target. With her arrows nearly up my ass, Kathy (my coach) came up to the line and solved the problem :) But the russian sure wasn't happy after that. But everything was fine because i killed her at 60M (TAKE THAT!! HA!)
So anyways enough about that....today is the second day of scoring and holy crap it should be interesting. The targets will obviously be closer to the archers so watching all these amazing girls at these distances should be awesome!
Hopefully i can control the nerves!

Miss the family! Oh ya .....dad's doin fine!

xoxo

AMAZING

That's the only way to describe what happened today.

It was a long afternoon as the shooting didn't finish until 18:15 local time(with daylight quickly becoming in short supply). Day one of the competition consisted of the two long distances....for Molly that was 60M and 5oM. What I witnessed today will not be soon forgotten. Two personnel best scores shot at a world championship....that's right a PB at BOTH 60M(310 out of 360) and 50M(319). Molly is ranked in 23rd place overall so far(in a field of 73). This simply spectacular. She is very proud of herself(needless to say). I can vividly remember her flashing me her score, with her fingers, on one end during the 60M round....a 56(out of 60 of course). The competition is incredible. The top girls do not miss gold(a 9 or 10) at these distances, simply amazing.

For those who know Buttercup he is doing fine. He had a very rough start in the opening round or two but got back on track and is currently in tenth, just 17 points from first place. For other archers check the FITA site as the results are posted there www.archery.org

Tomorrow consists of the two short distances....for Mol that is 40M and 30M. Theses two distances are shot at a smaller face than what was used today(80cm face vs a 122cm face).

That's all for now.

Official practice

Today was official practice. The wind really picked up today just to make things challenging. It did cut down on the overall heat factor though. Mol stuck with the longer distance (60M) today and she was very happy with how things went. My view from the bleachers was very limited but what I could see was impressive. She thinks she has butt mates from Japan, Guatemala and Italy for tomorrow. She has started to collect souvenirs from other archers.

I have lucked out on her butt assignment, #42D. This location will allow me to actually stand behind her to watch. It is a fair distance back but far better than the bleachers, which are at the side of the field and the angle makes it hard to see how the arrows have scored.

Equipment inspection included a crash course on using a PDA. The scoring will be done with one traditional paper scorecard and one electonic scoring device. Both Buttercup and Mol say it was easy to use. Also found out that all archers will advance to the elimination round as they are starting with 1/64(128 archers) matches.

After dinner tonight we(Buttercup & Spence) went for our usual walk down to the Sea and out on the pier. Afterward we dropped off Spence and the kids and I went to the amphitheatre and watched a "Turkish Night". It was an hour long traditional dance show...pretty good too.

Guess we're going to do a little swimming/waterpark stuff in the a.m. to help kill the time before we head out to the range on the 13:00hr bus. She will start at 14:45hr which will be 7:45a.m. EDT.

That's all for now

Scoring Tomorrow

Tomorrow is scoring!!
Practice has been fine, not the greatest. Working on release and bow side. Hopefully today will go well since its still practice (official).
Just wanna say thanks to everyone who has been following the blog! Miss ya all and we'll keep you updated!

Practise day 2

The venue is really taking shape. Lots of banners and even an archers lounge. Plenty more archers at the field today; the shooting line was getting pretty crowded at times.

The parents were instructed today on where they would be allowed for the rest of the tournament. It's not very good either. There are two sets of bleachers that are at either end of the width of the competition field. The main set of bleachers has about 28 practise butts between it and the competition field and the bleachers at the opposite end are part of the main field which is 68 butts wide.....point is you are gonna see jack sh!t because it's so big.

Tomorrow is Official practise

Practise

Both Sat. and today have consisted of unofficial practise at the field. Quite an impressive complex with a ton of butts.

We found out yesterday that the schedule has the Cadets doing all of their shooting in the afternoon. This doesn't seem very fair since they are going to have to deal with the heat everyday. So unless a country protests this that is the way it's going to be. At least at this years Nationals they saw fit to flip-flop the starting times for all. Not being a real heat lover Mol is having a hard time with this one.

Had a couple hours of rain last evening but it didn't affect anything.

Mol says she's not very nervous about this event as she doesn't have very high expectations....she even brought this up to her coach(Kathy) to make sure it was a normal feeling. She really wants to take it all in and learn from the experience as it is her first REAL BIG international tournament as being part of Team Canada.

All is well

It's 1:00am Friday and the Canadian Team arrived a couple of hours ago. Everyone is well and all of the baggage came through...........well maybe not every one's. I met up with Cathy B(mother of Andrew) earlier this evening and found out she is missing her baggage from her Istanbul connection(she came on her own route). At least we know it's in this country.

Everyone was tired and hungry...seemed like we were the only ones in the restaurant for the late snack time.

Team is to meet at 11:00am tomorrow(this morning I guess)

Thurs. Oct 2

Greetıngs

I was greeted at the Antalya aırport quıte unexpectantly by the organızers whıch was very nıce....not havıng to worry about gettıng to the resort. Met at the hotel by a gentleman(Arı) who wıll be lookıng after us durıng the competıtıon. He told me I was the fırst one to arrıve for the tournament and Team Canada wıll be the fırst arrıvıng team. Checked ın about 11:00pm local tıme. Had bıte to eat(whıch you can do anytıme of the day here) and off to some welcomed sleep.

Have had a bıt off an ıssue wıth tryıng to charge my laptop...can't(that's why thıs ıs late). Guess I should have double checked that converter I brought wıth me. If I can keep gettıng tıme here at the ınternet cafe at the resort thıngs wıll work.

Weather has been gorgeous...almost touchıng 30C and sunny wıth more of the same ın the forcast.

The resort ıs very nıce and I'm sure the Team wıll approve. We are somewhat secluded here(the resort) so I don't expect any walkıng trıps away from the property.

Team should be arrıvıng tonıght at about 9:00ısh.

Cont'd

Flight from Toronto to Gatwick was great. Left about 30mins. late but was very smooth and uneventful.

Waiting at Gatwick now(12:30 local time). Was informed that the flight will depart on time but will arrive late as we need to make an extra stop in Bodrum, Turkey to drop off spare parts and an Engineer to deal with another plane. No big deal I guess. Busy place this Gatwick and BIG...lots of walking

Travel Day(for me)

What a start. 2 hours before I have to leave for the bus(airport shuttle) a call comes in that we have switched(been forced) hotels!!!!!. Okay, at least I found out now and it didn't happen in transit.

Shuttle to airport uneventful, check the luggage, sit in the departure lounge(five hours early), buy some Wi-Fi time, check my email and guess what....in those few hours we are back to the original hotel. Apparently it is a busy time in Turkey right now (National holiday) and there has been some confusion. Hope nothing happens while I'm in transit because I don't know if I will always have wireless access.

So far flight is on-time

Purpose

The point to this blog is simple.......to keep family and friends up too date regarding our travels and how the tournament goes. The tournament is what Mol has been working towards all summer long...the Jr. World Championships to be held in Antalya, Turkey on October 6 through the 12th.

I am leaving on Monday 29th and Mol will depart with the majority of the team on Wednesday Oct.1. With a 21:50 departure and a 21:05 (local time) arrival in Antalya on the 30th, a long day of travel need be endured.

I'll try to keep this as up too date as possible as this will be my primary method of indicating to family, my existance.
